Christmas Time

Happy Christmas Time to my followers. I know that you are all busy bees with preparations for the holidays and time with family and friends.  I just wanted to take a minute and wish you all the best during this time and the new year. I certainly hope we can get back to our "normal" routines.  Our yarn will be missing us for the next couple of weeks.

I have completed a few projects but no pictures to post as of yet. Just finished the Road Map scarf and it was so fun to knit.  But at a dead end cause I hate to block.  Maybe a picture later.

To you all I wish you love and happiness.

So Far Behind...

There have been so many things going on lately that I have not had time to keep up to date.
During the first week of October, 2011 we meet Sonny's sister and her husband in Sevierville, TN for a week of autumn shopping. We all had fun and I will just d/l a few pics so you can see what a great time was had.

Now why are you taking a picture of me again?

On October 22, a few of us made a day trip to Ashville, NC for the SAFF exhibit. A Great time was had by all and we were having so much fun that I forgot to take pictures.  Bad on me.  But we all have memories. Thanks girls, I had a great time! Hope you did.  And talk about $$$....

On October 23, the family went to Owen's Fall Festival at Rural Hall Elem. School. He and Live had a great time. There was face painting, toenail painting and bouncy galore.

Next on Sunday, I took the kids to Fort Chiswell Animal Park in Max Meadows, VA. Was that great fun! I never thought I would have camels, bison, zebras, and many more eating out of our hands.  The sweet camels, Puff and Humphrey was a hit with us all. Here's a few of the pictures from that.  Just wish I had my shears when I saw this beautiful llama.. Going back it was that much fun..

Puff wanted his breakfast then...

he wanted to get on the bus with us

This one is Humphrey

Cody the Bison - I saw some bison fiber in Gatlingburg that was selling for $75.00/skein

Guess this is a quick catchup of my life lately.  I will try not to get so far behind again. I know I have left out a lot of fun facts but then, they were probably just fun for me.  Until next time....make time for YOURSELF.

My First Knit & Crochet Show (Overwhelmed)

Bronna brought to our attention earlier in the summer about the Knit & Crochet Show coming to Greensboro. Of course I had never been to one and thought it would be fun if a group of us (Pat, Joyce, Wanda, Pam) could get together and see what it was all about. I missed my friends, Dawn  and Laurie who could not go with us on Friday. Our LYS, Knit Picky was going to have a booth there. Well talk about a kid in a candy store, I was overwhelmed and couldn't stop going from booth to booth and touching the yarn. (Course I found out there were lots of people doing the same thing.) I did bring a few things home. Thought you might enjoy see what treasures I found and no, don't ask me when will I get them all done...

Swing Back Shawl (Maggi knits) found it at The Needle Lady
Beautiful blues done in Cotton, Linen, Lurex and Mist Slub

Springtime Bandit Scarf (Kelbourne Woolens) found at Knit Picky Yarns
Color of Terra-Mint, A baby alpaca,wool,silk blend.
Springtime in Philadelphia (Kelbourne Woolens) found at Knit Picky Yarns
Color of Terra - Dark Indigo
Beautiful Ansel  at Miss Babs
100% Superwash Merino Hand-painted. Pattern to follow later!

Gosh - I better not show anymore, I will get overwhelmed again.  But my friends who know me, know that I love BAGS...yep, I left with one or maybe ....

Well as you can see, I have some projects waiting on me, and a pretty bag to carry them around in.  I don't think I could handle a bigger Knit Show, well not without lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

In Between Raindrops

Well, my weekend was a busy one and activities were done in between raindrops.

Started Saturday off by watching my favorite grandson playing soccer. He is playing his second season. Don't care about the score, just love to see him play..

Ain't he sweet?
After our soccer games, we went to a Church Bar-B-Q for our annual BBQ Chicken. Our friends invite us to join them every year.  I won a silent auction for a golf game that hopefully will be fun for the family.

Then it was off to a surprise birthday party for Sonny's cousin. She is turning 60 this month.  Party was given by her daughter and all went well. Sure was hard keeping away from all those wonderful looking desserts!  Will-power.

Sunday, Sonny and I took our weekly trip to Beaver Creek Golf Course for a round.  It was really fun and the air felt so "autumn". Saw a few trees already turning. After completing our round, we went to Cousin Gary's Diner for our Sunday Buffett. It is in Pilot Mountain and love to go eat at their buffett bar, good food and good prices.

Now it is time to settle down, watch golf, watch football, take a nap, and then pick up my needles to do a little knitting.  Life is good. Hope all had a good weekend and are ready for a busy week ahead..
REMINDER: The Knit and Crochet Fiber Show is in Greensboro Friday - Saturday.  Hope you get to attend.

How Did You Spend Your Day?

I know all of us honored the rememberance of 9/11. So what did you do that day and the day after? I can just about bet it was doing something that you were FREE to do. Thank you to all who have served and are serving in the military to keep our shores as free as they can. And we, as Americans, can help too by letting them know we appreciate our freedom.  Let's help our country by looking for local vendors, Made in America products. My grandson asked me if there were ANY toys made in America cause all he saw was MADE IN CHINA.  As we were growing up, I took for granted when I saw a product that said Made in America.  Now how many do we see? Just thinking....

I was able to enjoy the weekend with my wonderful husband. We spent Sunday and Monday playing golf. We were avid golfers at one time and then life happened. It felt so good to have that freedom to do it again. It's a simple pleasure, you either like golf or you don't. But we do and know that it is something we can share together.

There is a quaint golf course in Dobson, Beaver Creek, that is family owned and they are just plain good folks. Tim and Cindy will always make you feel at home. So if you are ever up that way, drop in, no tee time required..

I love his "Freddie Couples" shoes.

I really did hit the ball.

Here's hoping everyone is having a good week.

Yes, I do remember where I was..yes I remember crying...yes I remember being afraid...yes I learned to hug and love more..Just remember to reach for HIS hand....

Labor Day Weekend

Don't really have a lot to say today. Hope to get some pictures out next week of completed projects. I knit and then I forget.

Just wanted to send a Happy Holiday Greeting to all my friends. And hope that you will be able to be with your family during this weekend. If there is a family member that you can't be with, just remember that you love them, miss them and the day will come that you can renew your lives.

God bless you all.  And thank you for being my friend....

Better than Nerve Pills

Let me first start off by saying all is well with our place at Southport. Sonny said we had some minor debris and lots and lots of wind and rain.  It has been raining about 8 hours now.

Courtesy of Joyce outside her window at Caswell Beach

He said our yard is a swimming pool.  Owen would love to hear that.

So after walking the floors last night, I got started with some wonderful fresh ground coffee (tks Belvadear), I cleaned up the kitchen and loaded up the dishwasher.  Then took my keys and walked out the door.  Yep it was time for a pedicure to calm my nerves.  It felt great to be pampered after a long night watching the weather channel.

Notice I am knitting in public.....

So when you want to save your nerve pills, may I recommend a relaxing pedicure and pick a color outside your box...

Have a wonderful Saturday night and stay safe to all.

GOOD NIGHT IRENE

Didn't think I would be blogging about a hurricane. But Irene wants her 15 minutes of fame.

Back in 1988, Sonny and I purchased a track of land in Southport, NC.  We enjoyed commerical saltwater fishing on our 25 foot Proline cabin boat named the SEA U LATER and a coastal town devoted to fishing and antiques.  Of course Southport is also a wonderful old coastal town with a lot of history.  It was once named Smithville. Our place is located 1/2 mile from intercoastal waterway and about 3 miles from the ocean.  We have been through quite a few hurricanes - Fran, Bertha, Bob, just to name a few.  We have been twisted around a few times, our privacy fence totally demolished, underpinning scattered a couple of blocks away and some lawn and outside furniture that was never found..

Sonny left yesterday for our place. He wanted to do some preventive stuff.  I did so want to go. But Owen started 2nd grade yesterday and in addition to that day in his life, he was covered in poison oak. I took him to his doctor for some meds and it was so weird.  I could just see new outbreak as we sat waiting for doctor.  His parents decided to keep him home today to take his meds and heal some. So he will be at his Dad's shop and little sister Livie will be with me. Her daycare is closed today due to Gloria having some medical procedure.

I have spent the night and this morning knitting and watching the weather channel.  I truly have a feeling that tonight will be the show of Irene.  I talked to Sonny last night and told him I wanted to come, of course the man logic, OK we have two vehicles down here and suppose something does happen, then what will we do if the vehicles get messed up.  And of course he is right.  But it's no fun sitting here and wondering.  I will be so nervous that I might be knitting as fast as Irene's wind speed.  All our stuff at Southport is material stuff and it doesn't worry as bad as hoping Sonny and others will be safe. Let's all say a prayer for the people in Irene's path.

Birthday in My House

To brighten my Tuesday this week, we had Sonny's birthday to celebrate.  Of course his day was spent doing what he likes best, playing golf.

It was also open house for Owen to get ready for the 2nd grade at Rural Hall Elem. School.  He had fun but had to end up going to the emergency room due to being covered with Poison Oak.  This is his first bout with it, bless his heart, it was on his face and hands.  Got some cream for it and he will be fine.  In fact it didn't stop him from his nighttime frog hunting. He has been doing this since he was 3 and always finds a bushel of frogs.  Have they ever gotten loose in the house? That's another story.

We finally were able to get the family together and have an ice cream cake for "Pa" and it was enjoyed by all.  This photo shows happiness on his birthday.

Good Friday Morning

Well I can start the day off by saying it is FINALLY Friday.  Sort of got a busy day planned. And hope to find some time to go feel some yarn.

I was looking last night at some of the finished projects I have done and thought I would post them.  But I must admit that when I was in my sewing days, my Mom would always be after me to "DO THE FINGER WORK". Didn't like doing that even though when it was done it would be finished.  I relied on her to do the hemming, buttons, ironing and then I was ready to wear it.  Well, I must admit I am the same way about blocking my projects and guess what, Mom is not here to do them.  Guess I had better work on that fault I have. Speaking of Mom, I wanted to post my favorite picture of my Mom, circa 1933, in her graduation dress.  I just love this era of clothes. And what a "classy-looking" Mom I had..miss her so. She was my BFF.

Ima Imogene Bolt Upchurch

Here are a few of my finished projects. Hope you enjoy.
(When I find the pattern, I can tell you what this one is called)

Loved the colors of this one, reminds me of the coast.

And of course, Livie has to have a new dress (need right buttons)

Owen's vest, he has finally decided that he likes to wear it,

Hope all have a great weekend, the weather might be a little cooler and hopefully that means you can get some "YARN" work done..

Interesting Tuesday

My day was not starting off very good this morning and I made a comment on facebook that got a lot of replies: "You know, some days people just think about themselves and not others who are always helping them out."

I guess I was in one of my down moods and yep, it came out of my mouth.  Well the day has gotten better, got a few things accomplished like laundry, bills, etc.  Maybe it all has to do with not touching my yarn today.  So let's declare we need a "National Hug Your Yarn Day".  Any takers?

Tomorrow will be the weekly Knit Nite and I am sure all will be better.  Found this cute little ditty today so I'll post it.  Hope all my friends following have a good day and a wonderful night.  PS  Football is here and I love to knit while I watch football.

Eye opening day

Well decided to check my "rat hole" today. For those of you who don't know, this is the closet I have my stash in. Well I filled up 3 containers today and decided I had better stop before I passed out and no one would find me under the yarn. But it was fun to find yarn I forgot I had.

Ribbon Ruffle Wrap without the Ribbon

The pattern I had for this wrap called for Tundra and Kudo.  Since Tundra was not in my stash, I decided to do the wrap without the Tundra.  It was knit with Kudo, Color 47, Lot 16.

I think it turned out pretty good and with all the different colors, I can wear it with lots of things.  Simple pattern and I enjoyed knitting it.

Sunday Morning

It's a beautiful morning ruined by me having to pay bills.  But as I was through giving my money to my debtors, I received an email from a wonderful friend.  She sent a link to me that she said she enjoyed watching.  I clicked on this link and found that IT REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL DAY.  Thank you BB and what a great post to my blog today.  Money cannot pay for the debt I owe to Him.

Wednesday Night Knit Night

Had a nice night at my local yarn shop, Knit Picky Yarns in Winston-Salem.  Met good friends at O'Charleys before knitting.  Always nice to have a meal with good friends.

Before I  had my knit night, I enjoyed a game of golf with my husband this morning.  In order to beat the heat, I was up at 5:30 am for a 7:30 am tee time.  Wasn't one of my best rounds but enjoyed our time together.

Sharing the concern with one of my friends regarding her mother.  My thoughts are with her, for I know what it is like to have your mother being your best friend forever.

Country Side Coming Out

So funny.  Heard this song while watching Golf Channel and fell in love with it.  My new happy song.

Saturday Night

As I earlier stated, I will be adding normal life things to my blog.  Last night we took Owen and his Mom and Dad to the Tractor Pull in Winston-Salem.  Been a really long time since I had been to one but this was Owen's first.  (Little Livie sat this one out and stayed with Grammy.)  It was so loving to see the shine in Owen's eyes when he saw new stuff.  We really had a great time.

My Big Wheel

Daycation

Decided to take off last Tuesday and go with What's Needlin Ewe of Mt. Airy on their Daycation.  There was a crowd of 12 and we visited Mabry Mill, Va.

I was pleased to have Bronna come with me and we had a blast.  Bronna will admit she is a city girl and after seeing some of the back roads of VA, she was still glad she is a city girl.  And we both found out what it was like to have 3 xtra shots of espresso added to our fraps.  Wide-eyed!!!  Be sure to ask Bronna what she found in Floyd, VA....

What a perfect back drop while we were knitting with our "modern" yarn.

My Energizer Boy

That taste good!

Southport Vacation

Just returned from taking g-kids to beach. We have a little place at Southport, NC and when we started taking Owen he named it the Fish House. So that is what it will always be.

Getting too old to keep up with the little ones.  And not to mention there is NO time for the knitting needles.. But what wonderful memories we made.  My angels..

Update

Well started this new blog and think I think I will add more than knitting to my topics.
